Barren Creek Band is four guys from the Delmarva Peninsula of
Maryland, making their fourth performance at the Nanticoke
Riverfest. “We are thrilled to have Barren Creek back again.”
said Entertainment Chair Amanda Lloyd-Parks, “They are always
guaranteed to get people dancing.”
Mike Little and Dave Davis are the sole remaining original
members, joined by Bob Drehmer, Clay Bailey, Tom Mavity and
Steve Woolston. Their love of music, talent and experience
combine to create a sound that is easily liked and creates new
fans wherever they go.
Formed originally as an all country music band in 1994, Mike and
Dave participated in moving the band toward a unique sound,
which led them to open the Tangier Sound Country Music Fest in
1996. Opening for the likes of Linda Davis, Collin Ray, Patty
Loveless and country music legend Vince Gill that year, they
performed before 17,000 screaming country music fans. They have
also had the experience for opening for country star Chely
Wright and southern rock legends The Marshall Tucker Band.
Answering the fan calling for more classic rock and oldies from
their audiences, the band began moving away from its all country
format, eventually transforming their set lists to include such
hits as “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Margaritaville” while keeping
such country music classics as “Don’t Close Your Eyes” and “What
Might Have Been.” In addition, they perform such classic rock
hits as “Can’t You See,” Takin’ Care of Business,” and “Doctor,
Doctor.” Even a little bit of Funk is included with “Play that
Funky Music White Boy.”
One of the elements which set Barren Creek apart from other
bands is vocals. All members of the band sing, and not just lead
vocals. Three and four part harmonies, blended and intricate, is
a trademark of these guys. Most bands have at least one good
vocalist, which one person adding a harmony here and there.
Barren Creek gives a constant harmony base, and play their
instruments well!
Bob Drehmer brought keyboards to the band in 2000, along with
his strong vocals and guitar skills. Clay Bailey joined a year
later, completing a foursome with dynamic lead guitar licks and
harmonica. His near perfect rendition of the Doobie Brothers
“China Grove” continues to thrill crowds.
They continue to play local venues such as Punkin Chunkin, the
Annual Watermelon Festival at Wright’s Market, the AMSA Beach
Party at Assateague, The Great North American Turtle Races, the
Labor Day at Long Neck Festival, and numerous fraternity lodges
and fire halls. And one of their favorites is the annual Relay
for Life Walk for Cancer Survivors in Seaford, DE. |
