Area Mayor’s are once
again invited to participate in the fun and
camaraderie of the Nanticoke Riverfest. This year’s
challenge will channel the food-related activities
that are seen in neighboring communities. Laurel has
watermelons, Bridgeville has scrapple and Seaford
has eggs (Allen’s Hatchery)! Each Mayor and a
municipal counterpart will participate in an egg
toss. The Seaford Mayor’s Challenge began in 2004
with a row-boat race.

Directions & Rules
All the mayors (and participating legislators) will
draw a number from 1-8. This will determine what
order they will toss their eggs, pick their field
and pick their eggs.
The first mayor and partner will select what dozen
eggs and oven mitts they would like to use. All eggs
are uncooked and similarly sized. All oven mitts are
of identical make (just with varying colors).
Then, in numbered order, the remaining mayors will
pick which dozen eggs and mitts they would like to
use.
Likewise, the first mayor and partner will select
which playing field they would like to use. All are
measured the same with an 8’ span for the first
toss, and 3’ intervals after that.
Each Mayor/Legislator and their partner must wear
the oven mitts provided by the Nanticoke Riverfest
Committee during play. They must also wear the apron
and hat provided by Allen’s Family Foods.
The Mayors/Legislators must stay on the silver
tape marked “Mayor” throughout play.
- Their partner
will stand on the colored tape labeled “1.” The
mayor and their partner must complete two
successful tosses to move to the next level. One
toss must be from the mayor to their partner and
the other toss must be from their partner to the
mayor. The team can decide who will toss first.
- Once a
successful “level” has been completed, the
partner will move back to the tape marked “2”
and so forth. At each level the two successful
tosses outlined above must be completed.
- At each level
the team may use another egg in the dozen that
they have selected. The egg will be their choice
but must be used for both tosses in that level.
- The teams who
completes the most levels will win. In the event
of a tie, there will be as many tie breaker
sessions as needed until a clear winner is
determined.
- In the event
that a team(s) complete all the levels
successfully, new markers will be placed on the
field that are 5’ further back from the level
before, starting with the last level.
Tie breakers:
- The tie breaker
will follow the same directions as above,
starting with level 1, with a few exceptions:
- The teams may
only use one egg during play. They may not
change eggs between levels.
- They must play
on the same field of play as previously used.
They may not use another team’s space.
- If there are
not enough clean mitts to use, the mayors will
choose numbers again to determine which team
gets to select oven mitts first, second and so
forth.
