The Barren Creek Band Returns to Riverfest
Saturday, July 9, 9 a.m.
Sponsored by Beachballs.com & the Delaware Division of the Arts

The Barren Creek Band (BCB) was formed in the early 90’s by Dave Davis, focusing mainly on country and oldies covers. BCB switched to “Hot Country” music in the mid/later 90’s. The band won the Froggy 99.9 Battle of the Bands competition with the prize of opening the Tangier Sound Country Music Festival before 17,000 country music fans. During the later 90’s, BCB’s music evolved more into classic rock and roll as some of the band members changed.

Today, the band continues with a classic rock theme and has been entertaining folks on the shore for nearly 20 years. The BCB Boys have had the opportunity to open for Vince Gill, Collin Rae, The Marshall Tucker Band, and Chuck Wicks. They have played numerous venues like Punkin Chunkin, The Nanticoke Riverfest, Labor Day at Longneck, the Delmarva Chicken Festival and other festivals and events throughout the shore. The band received a devastating blow in February 2010 when founder and band leader Dave Davis passed away from his battle with cancer. The remaining band members rallied together to keep the band going in his absence. The band continues today in his honor.

Griffin Dunn
Saturday, July 9, 4 p.m.
Sponsored by Delaware Division of the Arts

Talent – what exactly is it? Is it the ability to do what others can’t? Or is a raw, unrefined gem, waiting to be polished? Is it the combined efforts of marketing, production, and make-up, designed to give an illusion of creativity? No – talent is something much more; it’s something special. In Griffin Dunn’s case, talent comes in the form of a twelve-year old boy – buoyant with a God-given gift, and a natural energy – to provide a harmonious backdrop for the world’s ear.

Citing influences such as Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo (“I like the way he blends R&B & pop), and, interestingly enough – Justin Bieber – Griffin’s musical competency goes beyond just his years, and beyond his singing, and into the realm of writing.

After putting out his first set of viral videos in January of this year, Griffin’s already-packed schedule stepped up a few notches – professional studio sessions, a pending film script opportunity, and a potential national mall tour will keep Griffin well busy throughout the summer. The young prodigy, though, isn’t content to rest on his laurels – he’s already made up his mind on college, and plans to one day root for the Texas Longhorns in person, of whom he’s a die-hard fan.

With a big year in the making, Griffin’s parents, Nidia and Clint, each use their shared faith to help keep their son balanced: “Church is a big part of our lives, and we always remind Griffin that it’s a God-given gift. Having the ability to sing the way he sings, at such a young age, with no real training – we’re very grateful,” Nidia reflects. Echoing his mom’s exuberance, Griffin chimes in: “I really enjoy doing this. It’s exciting, it’s fun, and I want to continue learning. It’s really a cool ride.”

True talent is boundless – it serves as a basis for leaps of grandeur. The story of a sixth grader Griffin Dunn is just beginning to unfold. Take a little talent, add a flash of brilliance, and you’ve got Griffin Dunn – American’s next big talent. Be sure to stop by the City Hall steps for your opportunity to hear this talented local artist.
